Bug List

  1. My dorm room is always consistently hot which causes me to sweat quite frequently. Why: my roommate prefers the room to remain no less than 75 degrees, and I do not want to confront him because I am not a confrontational person. I tend to avoid creating arguments and do not intend to create a potential rift between us.
  2. The UF gyms, mainly SouthWest and Student Rec, are incredibly crowded during the afternoon on a daily basis. Why: students prefer to workout in the afternoon because they have morning classes and work or homework during the evenings.
  3. My dorm room has a plethora of posters of professional teams and athletes hung up. Why: my roommate is a major pro sports fanatics, therefore he decided to decorate our room with Miami Heat and Wade posters. I allowed my roommate to decorate the room with Heat posters because I did not want to upset or disappoint him.
  4. My gym partners are generally not as focused and determined as me during our workouts. Why: they simply do not share the same level of passion for working out as I do which implies that they do not take the gym seriously. Therefore, my partners do not prioritize working out to the same degree as myself.
  5. The lines to order and receive food at Chomp It are incredibly long during UF Football gamedays. Why: students generally become quite hungry following the conclusion of the football games because they had stood in the stands for roughly three hours. Therefore, many students opt for Chomp It because it's located near the football stadium and open 24/7.
  6. I absolutely dislike when individuals attempt to take shortcuts and avoid hard work in life and school. Why: some people simply lack a great work ethic, thus prompting them to indulge in cheating. There are individuals who won't commit any time and effort into working hard, hence resulting in students opting for methods involving cheating.
  7. My teammates on the UF Club Water Polo Team are far more skilled and talented than I am at the game of Water Polo which makes my playing abilities appear inferior. Why: my teammates are much more experienced in the sport of Water Polo than myself. This is because I've only played Water Polo for about two years, whereas the others have played Water Polo since their elementary and middle school years.
  8. The basketball court at the UF Student Recreational gym is typically quite crowded during the evenings. Why: students generally work out during the afternoon time and opt to play pickup basketball games during the evening time, which is likely because students are finished with class and homework by evening time.
  9. I do not have any friends who enjoy playing the game of Ultimate Frisbee so I cannot play this sport with the people I prefer to associate myself with. Why:
  10. My dorm room is quite messy, as there are clothes and supplies scattered all over the place. Why: my roommate and I are not the most organized or necessarily clean people. Therefore, our lack of cleanliness translates directly to a disorganized room because we do not possess the desire to consistently clean up after ourselves.
  11. Honors students at UF are allowed to select their courses first which leaves the students who are not in the UF Honors College with fewer classes to choose from. Why: being accepted into the UF Honors College is viewed as a privilege, and those selected are rewarded with the ability to select their classes before everyone else at UF. Therefore, slots for a plethora of courses will likely be gone by the time regular UF students choose their courses.
  12. The current ticket prices for Miami Heat home basketball games are extremely expensive. Why: the Miami Heat are currently viewed as one of the best professional basketball teams in the National Basketball Association. Therefore, due to their high level of play, the team will gradually raise the price of admission for fans who are interested in watching the Heat play in person.
  13. My personal laptop has a plethora of Gators themed stickers attached to it. Why: this was specifically done in order to prevent the possibility of someone stealing my laptop whenever it's unattended to. There are some students who indulge in stealing, so having stickers on a laptop reduces the potentiality of a student stealing the laptop.
  14. Newell Hall is seemingly always packed with students which causes me to remain in my dorm in order to study and complete homework. Why: students generally go to Newell Hall, which is essentially a 24/7 study hall, in order to study and complete their homework since the Marston and Lib West libraries are constantly crowded.
  15. My business courses are relatively challenging and requires a consistent amount of effort on a daily basis. Why: the UF Business program is considered quite rigorous and has courses designed to teach students an effective work ethic and passion for the business world. These particular business classes are not considered "easy" so students, including myself, should take them quite seriously at all times in order to graduate with a business degree.
  16. The students who play basketball at the SouthWest Recreational Center at UF play overly aggressive and physical in terms of their style of play which could lead to potential injuries. Why: those students possess an extreme competitive nature due to their love for the sport of basketball and desire to win the game. Their competitiveness results in injuries since students are always pushing and shoving and bumping bodies while playing.
  17. The rush period for all UF fraternities is approximately 4 to 5 days during the second week of the fall and spring semesters which does not leave students with much time to explore all fraternities. Why: this is because most, if not all, fraternities cannot dedicate too much time to recruitment. Fraternities have lots of events (socials and sports games), so the time frame for recruitment must be limited to roughly one week or less. Therefore, students typically visit only a few of the 24 fraternities at UF during the rush process because of the small time frame given.
  18. I strongly dislike how students at UF show significantly more support for our football team than our other athletic teams such as baseball and basketball. Why: football is widely considered America's sport, therefore UF students treat the sport of football like it's the only sport at school which matters. Therefore, other UF sports teams do not nearly receive the same amount of recognition of fan support as football because of the overwhelming popularity for the sport of football.
  19. I do not like the fact that the Water Polo practices do not get canceled when the temperature drops to the 45 to 55 degrees range. Why: the UF Water Polo coach values every single practice we have and would not cancel a practice due to cold weather. The practices are opportunities for the team to improve and become a more cohesive unit, therefore the weather would not influence the coach's decision regarding practice being potentially cancelled.
  20. None of my friends like to watch the sport of hockey so I generally just watch National Hockey League games (specifically the Florida Panthers) by myself. Why: hockey is a sport that is seemingly underappreciated and overlooked by many individuals, including my own friends. People, particularly my UF friends, are generally more interested in the sport of baseball, basketball, and football, therefore they ultimately neglect the sport of hockey as it's deemed incredibly unpopular compared to other sports in the United States.

Reflection: my bug list was actually relatively challenging and difficult for me to assemble. Essentially, the list itself took me anywhere between 3-4 days to properly construct and organize altogether. This is primarily because I would observe my surroundings on a daily basis and make mental notes in my mind of any potential bugs. Specifically, I would jot down roughly 5 or 6 bugs (certain aspects which bothered me) on a daily basis and subsequently write explanations for each bug. Furthermore, I also tried to be as specific as I possibly could with every single one of my bugs so my fellow classmates could determine whether or not any of my particular bugs were relatable.

  1. Hello Samuel, I really enjoyed reading through the entirety of your bug list. I can relate to you about not being confrontational. With your example, I also get hot easily and the air should never be higher than 72 degrees in my opinion or it isn't comfortable. My solution to this would maybe ask him politely if you could turn the air down and maybe start with one or two degrees. Great work! You explained everything great.
